Uttarakhand CM Rawat reaches Delhi amidst speculations over bye elections

As soon as Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat reached Delhi on Wednesday on the call of the central leadership, the round of speculation started once again. This tour was not only linked to the by-election of the Chief Minister, but also the talk of change of leadership in the event of obstruction in the by-election also went on in the political corridors. The presence of two state ministers in Delhi was also added to this. However, the Chief Minister himself said that he has come to Delhi to meet National President JP Nadda to discuss the election strategy decided by the party at Ramnagar Chintan Shivir. The Chief Minister reached Delhi in the afternoon on Wednesday, but he could not meet the national president till late night.

Just three and a half months ago, in the context of the major political developments of the sudden change of leadership in the state government, the sudden summoning of Chief Minister Tirath to Delhi by the high command led to various discussions in the political circles. The Chief Minister reached Dehradun on Tuesday evening after participating in the three-day contemplation camp of BJP organized in Ramnagar. He left for Delhi on Wednesday morning. Along with this, many types of discussions quickly gained momentum.

Calling the Chief Minister to Delhi was seen to be linked to the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections, and also to address the issue by-election of the Chief Minister. It also arose that if the by-election is held, the Chief Minister would avoid contesting from the Gangotri seat, because the pilgrim priests are angry about the Devasthanam board there. In such a situation, the Chief Minister can give preference to any assembly seat falling under the Garhwal parliamentary seat. There was also speculation that there could be a change of leadership in the government again if the situation for the by-polls is not made.

After the change of leadership, the Tirath government had canceled the responsibilities shared in the previous government. Emphasis is being laid on devising such a formula for responsibilities distribution, so that voices of dissatisfaction do not arise anywhere in the organization. The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi was also seen to be linked to this issue.
