Dehradun Nagar Nigam comes up with new rule to fine owners who do not register their dog

  • Pet registration fees increased to Rs 200
  • Dog license to be renewed every year

The Dehradun nagar nigam has asked Doonites to get their pet dogs registered as soon as possible and owners who fail to do so will have to pay a fine of Rs 500.
While pet dogs have to be registered in the city according to nagar nigam guidelines, locals mostly either ignore the directive or claim lack of awareness. The state government has now asked authorities to be stricter about implementation of the rule.
Dr V Sati, senior municipal veterinary doctor, said, “The rule that every pet dog needs to be registered with the local civic body has been there for ages. Unfortunately, people are not aware of it. Registration of the pet is important as the dog owner has to ensure that the animal is vaccinated for rabies in order to get a dog licence.”
Sati added, “The nigam board has now decided that the pet registration fee will be increased to 200 rupees and the dog licence will have to be renewed every year.”
“It has also been decided to send out notices to the defaulters and charge a penalty of Rs 500 in case the pet owner is found flouting the rule. We will ask supervisors of the localities to inform us about those who keep dogs and we will cross check the information with the list of registered pets,” Sati said.
The citizens have welcomed the nigam’s move to strictly impose the rule.
