FDA approves Pfizer’s antiviral pill for covid treatment
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the US has approved Pfizer’s Paxlovid covid-19 pill. This pill can be given to high-risk corona infected who are 12 years of age or older. When the pill was approved, Patrizia Cavazzoni, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said it was a big step in the fight against the pandemic. He said that this will be the first time that corona patients (Covid Infected) will be treated through the pill.
Earlier, American drug maker Pfizer had said that their antiviral Covid pill is 90% effective against corona. High risk patients can be saved from death or hospitalization with this medicine. According to lab data, this drug has also proved effective on the new Omicron variant of Corona.
FDA scientist Patrizia Cavazzoni said, in many countries of the world, a tablet has been successfully prepared for the treatment of corona virus. This is a historic step in the global fight against Corona.
Albert Bourla, chief executive officer and president of Pfizer, said that 2,200 people being treated for corona in the hospital tested this tablet and it showed great results. Tablets can reduce the risk of death by up to 88 percent.
Will work against Omicron
The Omicron variant has just been found. That’s why the company has not tested it yet. However, in the midst of this, experts say that since the way the tablet works is slightly different from that of antibodies or vaccine, this tablet will be effective against any variant of corona, not only Omicron.
The application of Paxlovid tablet for approval was put up before the committee of US Drug Controller USFDA. All the members of the committee have given permission for its use. In this regard, the committee has not seen much security related threat. Paxlovid Tablet inhibits the activity of protease. Protease is an enzyme that helps the virus to replicate.
