On the fifth day of the Test match played at Centurion’s SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium, Team India won the match by 113 runs after bowling out South Africa for 191 runs in the second innings. With this, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the Test series. After the ruthless bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin also showed his bowling caliber in the end. Chasing a target of 305 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 191 in their second innings in the second over of the second session on the fifth day. India scored 327 in its first innings and 174 in the second innings. South Africa could only manage 197 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul, who scored a century in the first innings for India, was adjudged the man of the match.

This is India’s fourth win in Test matches on South African soil and it has also made a strong move towards winning the Test series for the first time in this country. The second match of the series will be played in Johannesburg from January 3. India took three wickets in the morning session to reduce South Africa’s score to 182 for seven by lunch. After lunch, they took out the remaining three wickets within two overs and registered a resounding victory. Ashwin (2 for 18) ended the match with the last two wickets in consecutive balls. Bumrah (3 for 50) started the morning session by dismissing South African captain Dean Elgar (77 off 156 balls), followed by Mohammed Siraj (2 for 47) and Mohammed Shami (3 for 63).

Rain was predicted in the evening session and in such a situation, India wanted to get wickets as soon as possible. Temba Bavuma (35 not out) held one end but there was no player left to support him in the end. Seeing the uneven bounce from the pitch, Elgar took an attacking position. He added 36 runs in the first 45 minutes with Bavuma. Shami meanwhile dropped Elgar’s catch on his own delivery, but it was Bumrah who put the South African captain in trouble.
