Rains break 9 year record in Uttarakhand

The new year started in the state with bad weather. The Meteorological Department had predicted rain snowfall in Uttarakhand from January 4 to 9 in the state, the same is happening. It has been raining heavily in the state since the first week of January. From Saturday morning till Sunday, there was so much snowfall and rain in Uttarakhand that the record of last 9 years was broken. Earlier this happened in the year 2013.  The highest rainfall in a single day so far in January since the year 2013 was recorded this past Sunday. The state recorded 48 mm of rain within 24 hours. While Dehradun received 55 mm of rain. Earlier in January 2013, more rain was recorded in a single day. During the last two days, all the districts have recorded above normal rainfall. Uttarkashi 52mm, Dehradun 55mm, Almora 43mm, Chamoli 34mm, Champawat 37mm, Haridwar 40mm, Nainital 32mm, Pauri 64mm, Tehri 60mm and Udham Singh Nagar 34 mm of rain.

Due to the rain and snow, the entire state is under the grip of cold wave. In the hilly areas, people are making a living by lighting bonfires. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of continuous snowfall in Uttarakhand. There is a possibility of snowfall in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar districts.

Due to the activity of Western Disturbance, it is raining heavily in the plains and mountainous areas of the state for the last 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has also predicted snowfall with light rain at isolated places in the hilly areas of the state today. It has been raining and snowing in most areas of the state since Friday. The process of rain snowfall started in Uttarakhand on Saturday morning and continued till Sunday. However, on Sunday evening, the sky cleared in many areas. Bright sunshine came out in the plains. In some hilly areas, once again thunderstorm occurred in the evening.
