Jhanda Mela 2022 begins in Doon

The historic Jhanda Mela of Dehradun started from today with the ascent of Shri Jhande ji at Darbar Sahib. To witness this moment, the Darbar Sahib complex was packed with devotees arriving from the country and abroad. Today morning at 7.30 am, the process of taking down the old Sri Jhande ji started under the leadership of Shri Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj.

After this, the new flag (Srijhande) was bathed with milk, curd, Gangajal. The fair started with the ascent of Shri Jhande ji between two and four o’clock in the afternoon. This time Baljinder Singh Saini of Delhi has got the privilege of offering Darshani flag cover. In the evening, the sangat will leave with the blessings of Guru Maharaj.

Jhanda Mela is organized every year at Darbar Sahib to mark the birthday of Shri Guru Ram Rai Sahib. According to the Darbar Sahib management, Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji was born on the fifth day of Holi in the year 1646 in Kiratpur (District Hoshiarpur) of Punjab. In the year 1676, Sri Guru Ram Rai had camped in Doon and installed a huge flag for public welfare. Since then every year Jhanda Ji is ascended on the fifth day of Holi. In this, devotees from other states reach and take the blessings of Jhanda ji.
