Uttarakhand weather update: Red alert for heavy rain in Dehradun, Tehri

The weather conditions in Uttarakhand are harsh and heavy rains are continue to cause heavy damage at many places. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of continuation of heavy to very heavy rainfall in most areas of the state for the next few days.

According to Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, a red alert has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Pauri and Tehri on Friday. Whereas, there is an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar. In other districts too, there may be intense showers with thunder and lightning at some places. This sequence is expected to continue till August 14.

For the last three days, there has been a sequence of heavy rains in many areas of Doon valley. One to two spells of rain are being recorded daily. Normal life is badly affected in Maldevta and Sahastradhara areas. In Rajpur area too, water logging and landslides have been reported in many colonies.

Heavy rains in Rishikesh

Cloud burst was reported in Rishikesh’s Neelkanth area on Wednesday night. Due to which there was record rainfall in Rishikesh.

During this, 434 mm of rainfall was recorded overnight, which is the highest rainfall so far in Rishikesh region within 12 hours. Apart from this, 180 mm of rain was recorded in Narendra Nagar, 173 mm in Kalsi, 144 mm in Haripur, 133 mm in Yamkeshwar, 125 mm in Tanakpur and 123 mm in Raiwala.
