CM Dhami meets CM Yogi at Lucknow

Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami paid a courtesy call on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Tuesday. On this occasion, he gifted the statue of Lord Badri Vishal and products made from food grains produced in the state. The Chief Minister also discussed with the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh various issues related to division of assets and liabilities between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami again requested his UP counterpart to provide 665 cusecs of water from the Ganga Canal to the state of Uttarakhand for irrigation for the non-irrigated areas of Haridwar district. The Chief Minister has said that it is proposed to expand the capacity of 35 km long Iqbalpur canal system and Kankhal and Jagjitpur canal to provide irrigation facility in 18280 hectares of non-irrigated land of 74 villages of three development blocks of Haridwar district. There are no rivers or other water sources available for irrigation in the area in question. Due to which there is a need for 665 cusecs of water from Ganga Canal to Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister mentioned that a preliminary feasibility report was sent by the Chief Engineer of the Ganga Canal Operation Division, U.P., Meerut to make 665 cubic sec water from the Ganga Canal available to the state of Uttarakhand for the Kharif crop. The feasibility report informed that 665 cubic sec water can be made available for the Kharif crop, but there is no water available for the Rabi crop irrigation.

The Chief Minister stated that the demand for 665 cubic sec of additional water from the Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand is minimal and reasonable. This amount accounts for only 13.5% of the surplus water available from the Tehri Dam. Furthermore, it is even less than the proposed utility of 4,000 cubic sec of water for Uttar Pradesh. Agreement on this matter is pending at the Uttar Pradesh government level.

In this regard, the Chief Minister requested approval for the supply of 665 cubic sec of water from the Upper Ganga Canal to fulfill the proposed irrigation schemes for the state of Uttarakhand.

During the meeting with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also discussed the division of assets and liabilities between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh state. The Chief Minister said that joint consent has been expressed by both the Chief Secretaries for transfer of 615.836 hectares of land and 348 residential buildings and 167 non-residential buildings of the Irrigation Department in Haridwar district to the state of Uttarakhand.
