Lyrid meteor shower to be visible in India tonight

From today i.e. Friday, those who watch the night sky can get to see a sight like fireworks. A very beautiful astronomical event is going to take place tonight. The sight of the Lyrid meteor shower can be seen in many cities of the country. This sight can be seen in the sky at night, not for a day or two, but till April 29. Scientists have told that about 10 to 15 meteorites can be seen falling across the sky in different cities every hour. The special thing is that tonight i.e. on Friday night, the maximum amount of meteor showers can be seen.

The annual Lyrid meteor shower is set to be seen in the Indian skies this time. According to experts, at least 10 to 15 meteors will fall every hour. They can also be seen in Delhi, Kolkata and some other parts of the country. After 8:31 pm, these meteors will be at their peak.

The glare of the moon could dim the effect

These meteor showers will make the Indian sky even more buzzing during the night from tonight to April 29. However, the brightness of the moon can prevent people from seeing the unique phenomenon. Experts agree that the best meteor showers occur in the early morning and just before sunrise.

What did NASA say on this celestial event?

According to NASA, the Lyrid meteors have been seen in Earth’s sky for the last 2,700 years. It is said that they leave behind traces and streaks of shimmering dust in the night sky. Lyrid meteors are named after the Lyra constellation of stars. The meteor is part of a debris field left behind by Comet Thatcher that is currently passing through the Solar System away from the Sun.
