Uttarakhand government backtracks on odd-even formula for four wheelers

The Uttarakhand government has removed the system of odd-even made for the operation of private four-wheelers in eight major cities of the state. The government had to reverse its decision even before the system started due to practical problems. Now, as before, there can be movement of vehicles from seven in the morning to four in the evening.

On the guideline issued by the Central Government regarding lockdown 4, the state government decided to move the private four wheeler vehicles in Dehradun, Rishikesh, Rudrapur, Kashipur, Haridwar, Kotdwar, Roorkee and Haldwani on the basis of Odd-Even Number Plate.

The government took this decision to strictly implement social distancing to reduce vehicular congestion in these cities. However, this rule did not apply to goods carrier vehicles, vehicles engaged in essential services and authorized vehicles permitted from other states.

According to sources, the government was made aware of the problems being faced in making arrangements in most of the districts. On the instructions of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, the system of Odd-Even implemented for vehicles has been canceled.

The government informed that this decision has been taken in view of the practical difficulties faced by the people. Instructions have been issued to the authorities in this regard.
