Traffic Rules: You could be fined even after wearing helmet; know why

Wearing a helmet is mandatory while driving two wheelers on Indian roads. Riding without a helmet is a violation of traffic rules and also attracts heavy fines. However, according to the new traffic rules, you could face a fine even after wearing a helmet. Let us know why there was a need to make this rule.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, if you do not lock the strip after wearing the helmet while driving a two wheeler, then you will have to pay a fine. This rule has been made keeping in view the safety of the people. It has been seen many times that people wear helmets to avoid the police but forget to lock it properly. Now the traffic police is paying close attention to this thing.

Know what the rule says

According to the Motor Vehicle Act 194D, if you are caught without a helmet, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 1000, while wearing a helmet without BIS mark can also lead to a fine of up to Rs 1000.

Also, as per the new Motor Vehicle Act, you may have to pay a hefty fine of Rs 20,000 if you overload the vehicle. Also, doing so will attract an additional fine of Rs 2,000 per tonne.
