‘Butter Festival’ celebrated with fervor in Uttarkashi

The annual Andhuri Utsav (Butter Festival) was celebrated on Friday at Dayara Bugyal, situated at an altitude of 11 thousand feet above sea level in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. The festival started with the worship of the palanquin of Lord Someshwar. During this, hundreds of villagers and tourists who reached the festival danced to the beats of traditional musical instruments like dhol-damoun and other folk songs. The Holi of milk, butter and buttermilk was started by breaking the pot by the form of Lord Krishna. After this, people drenched each other with butter and buttermilk.

Chief guest Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan and special guest BJP District President Satendra Rana, who reached the Butter Festival organized by Dayara Tourism Festival Committee, were welcomed. After this, the palanquin of Someshwar Devta was worshipped, in which the committee officials participated.

After the worship of Someshwar deity, butter and buttermilk were first placed in front of the Dev Doli for the Matki breaking program. During this, folk singer Surendra Rana and singer Seema Pangriyal gave a wonderful performance of bhajans and folk songs. People played Holi with great enthusiasm with streams of buttermilk jumping in the air and applying butter on each other’s cheeks.
