Record breaking heat returns as monsoon sets to depart from the state

After the weakening of monsoon in Uttarakhand, the weather remains dry and the bright sunshine is making people sweat. In most areas of the state, mercury is rising amidst dry weather.

Not only this, in Doon, the mercury broke the record of 50 years on Monday. For the first time since 1974, the maximum temperature of Doon has exceeded 36 degrees Celsius in September. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is likely to remain dry even today. Whereas, there may be heavy showers in Kumaon on Wednesday.

Bright sunshine throughout the day

The weather has remained dry for the last few days in most areas including Doon. Bright sunshine is raising mercury throughout the day and the heat is making people miserable. However, the weather remains pleasant in the morning and evening. Due to bright sunshine, the mercury has risen rapidly in Doon. On Monday, the maximum temperature of Doon was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees Celsius more than normal.

In the last three days, the mercury has increased by three degrees Celsius. This is the highest temperature in Doon in September in 50 years. The all-time record of the highest temperature in Doon in September was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius on 4 September 1974. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain dry in most areas including Doon even today.

Weather change expected on Wednesday

According to the Director of Meteorological Center, Bikram Singh, the monsoon activity in the state is currently slow. Heavy showers with thunder and lightning may occur in most areas of Kumaon on the coming Wednesday and Thursday. The departure of monsoon from Rajasthan has started from Monday, in such a situation, monsoon may leave Uttarakhand within a week to 10 days.
