Notably, this is the third earthquake in Bageshwar district this year. The first earthquake, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale, was recorded in Bageshwar on January 13th. This was followed by a 3.4 magnitude earthquake on February 6th. Fortunately, neither earthquake resulted in any casualties.

It’s worth noting that Uttarakhand is an earthquake-prone state. Earthquakes are felt frequently in the state. This is why Uttarakhand has been placed in Zone 6. Previously, Uttarakhand was placed in Zones 4 and 5 based on its earthquake sensitivity. However, in 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) released a new map assessing earthquake sensitivity across the country, placing Uttarakhand in Zone 6.
