Anti encroachment drive carried out in Dehradun

On the orders of NGT, encroachment was demolished from the banks of Rispana river in Dehradun on Monday. A joint team of Municipal Corporation, District Administration and Police launched a campaign in Chunabhatta area in front of Old Dalanwala and demolished about 27 illegal constructions.

The police pacified those who opposed the action. The Municipal Corporation team reached Dalanwala police station at 8 in the morning. From here, the team reached the spot along with the police force and started the campaign against encroachment at around 8:30 in the morning. As soon as four JCBs entered the riverbed, there was a stir among the people nearby.

JCB first started demolishing the illegal constructions adjacent to the riverbed. Seeing the team growing, some people themselves started removing the encroachment. Some appealed to the officers to stop the action and asked for time. The officers told them that earlier a notice had been issued and sufficient time had been given to remove the encroachment. Despite this, if the encroachment was not removed, action is now being taken.

Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar said, action was taken till 4 pm on the first day. During this period, 27 encroachments including three shops, three residential buildings, one store, one restaurant were removed. The campaign will continue until the identified illegal constructions are demolished.

People surrounded the vacant land in front of their house. In the colony adjacent to Chunabhatta, many people surrounded the government land on the banks of the river in front of their houses and built walls there. Some were growing vegetables there and some had installed gates and locked them.  Many people had made parking of vehicles.
