June Heatwave Intensifies: Doon and Haldwani grapple with sweltering temperatures

Even though there was some relief from the heat in the first week of June, but for the last few days the weather is again causing trouble. Due to the continuous increase in temperature, hot winds have started bothering during the day as well as at night. On Monday, the maximum temperature of Doon was recorded at 41.1 degrees, six degrees above normal. On the other hand, the temperature of Doon is expected to increase on Tuesday.

If we look at the data of the last ten years of the month of June, the temperature of Doon was not recorded at 41 degrees on any day except the year 2022. The maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees was recorded on June 5, 2022. Whereas in the month of June of nine years data, the temperature was never recorded at 41 degrees. Meteorologists say that this increase in temperature is being seen due to climate change and changed weather pattern. This is the reason why the maximum temperature of Doon is expected to be 42 and the minimum temperature is 24 degrees on Tuesday.

The situation in Kumaon is no different, Haldwani is not getting relief from the scorching heat even in June. There was humid heat on Monday as well and the maximum temperature of the city reached 42 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 20.6 degrees Celsius, 16 percent humidity and winds blew from the northwest at a speed of 9.5 km per hour. On May 31 this year, the mercury reached 43.6 degrees, which is the highest till now.

On Monday, the crowd on the roads was very less amid the heat. Market had a deserted look as well. Most of the people left their homes only in the evening for important work. Seven years ago in 2017, on June 4, 5 and 6, the mercury of Haldwani was 42 degrees Celsius. Dr. RK Singh, a weather expert of Pantnagar Agricultural University, said that there is no possibility of relief from heat and temperature till June 13. Hot winds will blow more now, due to which the temperature will remain above 40 degrees.

There is a possibility of light rain in the hilly districts of the state on Tuesday. While gusty winds can blow in the plains. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Center, there is a possibility of light rain in some areas of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. While in the plains, gusty winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers.
