Schools in Dehradun district to remain closed on August 13 after met department issues red alert for rain

Torrential rains continue from mountains to the plains in Uttarakhand. In the forecast released on Tuesday by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun and the National Disaster Alert Portal of the NDMA, a ‘red alert’ has been issued for the Dehradun district on Wednesday, August 13. The department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in many areas, very heavy rain at some places, lightning with thunder and very intense rain spells.
As a precautionary measure, the administration has ordered all private and public schools in Dehradun to remain closed on August 13, 2025. As per the order, ‘According to the updated weather forecast issued on 12th August, 2025 by India Meteorological Department, Dehradun and NDMA Sachet, National Disaster Alert Portal, a ‘red’ alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, thunder and lightning at some places in Dehradun district on 13th August, 2025. At present, in view of moderate to heavy rainfall in all areas of the district, the possibility of landslides / flash floods increases in sensitive places. Due to which any kind of untoward incident can happen. In view of disaster reduction, a one-day holiday is declared on 13.08.2025 in all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers running from class 01 to 12 in the district.’

Apart from Dehradun, schools will also remain closed in Almora, Bageshwar, and Chamoli districts on August 13, 2025.
