Schools in Dehradun to remain closed on 23 July after heavy rain alert

In view of the possibility of heavy rain in Dehradun and the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, the administration has declared a holiday on July 23, 2024 for students in all schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun district. Along with this, Anganwadi centres will also be remain closed. District Magistrate Sonika has informed that this information has been sent to all the schools and the District Education Officer will ensure strict compliance of this order.

According to the weather forecast issued on 22 July 2024 by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun and NDMA’s National Disaster Alert Portal, an alert has been issued for heavy rain and lightning/heavy to very heavy rain with thunder at some places in Dehradun district on 23 July 2024. At present, in view of moderate to heavy rain in all areas of the district, the possibility of landslides increases in sensitive places. Due to this, any kind of unpleasant incident can happen. Hence, the department has taken the decision as a precautionary measure.
