Schools to remain closed in Dehradun on September 1 after heavy rain forecast in Uttarakhand

A red alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rains in entire Uttarakhand on Monday (September 1). The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in the remaining districts of the state. At the same time, a holiday has been declared in schools across the state.

According to the Dehradun Meteorological Center, heavy to very heavy rains are forecast on September 1, 2025 in Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Almora, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Champawat and Pauri districts of Uttarakhand. Due to this, a holiday has been declared on Monday in all the schools from class 1 to 12 as well as all Anganwadi centers in all these districts.

In view of the warning of the Meteorological Department, the authority has taken this decision keeping public safety paramount so that the safety of children can be ensured and the routes to and from school remain safe. All the concerned departments will remain vigilant to deal with possible disasters due to heavy rains.

The period of rain continues in the mountainous and plain areas of the state. On Sunday, several rounds of rain were seen in all the districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain for Monday. In such a situation, the temperature of these districts can also fall. Meteorologist Rohit Thapliyal said that monsoon is at its peak these days. The rain is expected to continue in the coming days as well.

19 percent more rain has occurred

The state has received heavy rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, between June and August, there has been 19 percent more rain (1165.3 mm rain) than normal. The average (normal) rainfall in the state in the month of August is 385.7 mm while 574.4 mm rain occurred. There has been 49 percent more rain in August. Talking about the districts, the highest rainfall has occurred in Bageshwar district.
