Uttarakhand weather update: Schools to remain closed in Dehradun district on July 9

Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several Districts on July 9 and 10; Administration on Alert

Dehradun: According to the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, there is a likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, lightning, and spells of intense to very intense rain across several districts of Uttarakhand on July 9 and 10, 2026. In view of this, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has issued necessary precautionary and vigilance-related guidelines to all District Magistrates. Meanwhile, Dehradun district administration has declared a holiday for schools tomorrow, July 9, 2026, in light of the alert issued by the Meteorological Department.

As per the forecast, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for July 9 for the districts of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, anticipating heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

For July 10, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for the districts of Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, and Bageshwar, while a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, and Pithoragarh.

The State Emergency Operation Centre has instructed all District Magistrates to maintain special vigilance in vulnerable areas, keep relief and rescue teams on alert, ensure coordination among all officials and departments involved in disaster management, continuously monitor the condition of road networks, and ensure prompt action in the event of any emergency. Additionally, District Information Officers have been directed to widely disseminate weather-related warnings.
