Tourists will have to wait for more than two and a half years to go to Mussoorie by ropeway. The construction of the lower terminal station of the Doon-Mussoorie ropeway has been completed. While other constructions including the upper terminal station, tower, parking, accommodation, toilet and center plaza are yet to be done. The total length of this ropeway will be 5.3 km.

These days more than 10 thousand tourists are going from Doon to Mussoorie daily. Due to this, there is a situation of jam on this route throughout the day. At the same time, due to high pressure of vehicles in Mussoorie, there is also jam at many places. In the year 2019, the Tourism Department had proposed to build a ropeway from Purkul village adjoining Dehradun to Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie, but due to the land issue, this project remained pending for about four years.

In the beginning of the year 2024, the department started the construction of the ropeway at a cost of about Rs 285 crore through Mussoorie Sky Car Company under PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode. Now the work of the lower terminal station of the ropeway in Purkul has been completed. While other construction works are going on at a fast pace. The Tourism Department claims that the construction of the ropeway will be completed by the year 2026.

Once developed, 1500 tourists will be able to go to Mussoorie from one side in an hour through the ropeway. It will take about 30-35 minutes for tourists to reach Mussoorie. A 10-storey multi-level parking will be built in Purkul for tourist vehicles. Apart from this, they will also get food and accommodation facilities here. For which they will have to pay a separate fee.

The construction of the Doon-Mussoorie ropeway is going on at a fast pace. After the construction of both the terminal stations, the middle will be constructed. Parking work will also start soon. It is expected that the construction of the ropeway will be completed by November 2026.
