Russian court fines Google $20 decillion

A Russian court has imposed a fine of 20 decillion dollars on Google. This amount is more than 620 times the GDP of the whole world. This means that if the GDP of all the countries of the world is added 620 times, then this amount will be collected.

The case pertains to Google banning 17 pro-Russia YouTube channels in 2020. The channels had filed a court case against this. While hearing in 2020, the court imposed a fine of 1 lakh rubles daily till the ban on the channels was lifted.

9 months were given for this. If the company did not pay the fine during this time, it will double every 24 hours. Now this fine has reached 20 decillion dollars.

This case started in 2020 when Google removed 17 pro-Russia channels from YouTube. This also included the government channel Russia-1. After this, Russia-1 anchor Margarita Simonyan filed a petition in the court. The court had imposed a fine of 1 lakh rubles per day in its decision.

Google was declared bankrupt in Russia in 2022, but services like Google’s search engine and YouTube are still available in Russia. X and Facebook have been banned by Russia, but this ban has not been imposed on Google yet. However, Google has reduced its services in Russia.

The fine of such a huge amount is one of the biggest penalties in the legal history of the world. Google has said that it will not affect their services.

These countries have also imposed fines on Google

In the last 10 years, different countries have imposed a total fine of $ 14 billion (11 thousand 620 crores rupees) on Google. India also imposed a fine of Rs 1338 crore on Google on 21 October 2022 in the case of unfair business practice.

In Britain too, Google is accused of taking unfair advantage in the digital advertising market.
