Three convicts of the gruesome Nirbhaya gangrape case have filed a petition in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to avoid the death penalty. In this petition, three convicts have sought stay on the death penalty. Among the convicts who filed the petition are Akshay, Pawan and Vinay. According to the new death warrant, all the convicts of Nirbhaya gang rape case are to be hanged at 5:30 am on March 20.

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea of convict Mukesh Singh in which he had requested to reinstate all his legal remedies, saying that his old lawyer had misled him. The court said that the plea of Mukesh Singh, convicted in the Nirbhaya case, requesting reinstatement of all legal remedies is not negotiable.

What is International Court of Justice?

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) was created by the Charter of the United Nations in June 1945. However, it started its work from April 1946. It is a major judicial body of the United Nations. The headquarters of the International Court of Justice is located in the Peace Palace of The Hague (Netherlands).

The family of the culprits had sought euthanasia from the President

The families of the four convicts convicted in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday seeking permission for euthanasia. Those seeking euthanasia included the elderly parents, siblings and their children of the culprits.

The family of the convicts in a letter to the President said that we request you (the President) and the parents of the victim to accept our request and allow us euthanasia. Prevent any future crimes, so that no other incident like Nirbhaya occurs and five people are hanged in the court instead of one person.

The relatives of the convicts said that there are no sins that cannot be forgiven. It is further written in the letter that we are forgiving Mahapapi (great sinner) in our country. The definition of revenge is not power. Forgiveness is power. According to the new death warrant, the four convicts of Nirbhaya gang rape Vinay Sharma, Akshay Singh Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh are to be hanged at 5:30 am on March 20.

So far President Ramnath Kovind has rejected the mercy petition of all the culprits. However, the guilty Akshay Singh Thakur has filed a new mercy petition in which he has said that all the facts were not present in the old mercy petition filed before the President.

The convicts in this case have filed petitions in the lower court of Delhi, the High Court and the Supreme Court to avoid capital punishment.
