Uttarakhand weather update: Monsoon to strengthen with fresh spells of rain
In Uttarakhand, light to moderate showers are continuing amidst the sun and clouds playing hide and seek from the mountains to the plains. On Wednesday, 20 August, after the sunshine in the morning in Dehradun, there were heavy showers in the afternoon. However, the weather became pleasant in the evening.
On Wednesday, there was bright sunshine in the Doon and surrounding areas since morning. Due to which heat and humidity were felt. However, the weather suddenly changed in the afternoon and thick clouds camped in the sky. With this, heavy rain started across the city.
Heavy rain was recorded for about an hour in most areas of Dehradun. On Thursday, Dehradun may have partly cloudy to generally cloudy sky. There may be intense spells of rain at some places. During this time, the temperature is expected to remain above normal. As per the weather forecast for the coming week, there may be spells of heavy rainfall in Dehradun district from 23rd August onwards. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rains in the district on 23 and 24 August 2025.
Meanwhile, rain forecast has been issued in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts for today (August 21). There is a possibility of lightning along with thunder at some places. Dehradun’s morning started with thunder, lightning and rain. Doon valley will remain partly cloudy and light to moderate rain is expected. The mood of the weather in the capital kept changing repeatedly on Wednesday.
