The political drama of Maharashtra was finally ended today. Devendra Fadnavis resigned as CM 24 hours before the floor test to prove majority. Two hours before this, Ajit Pawar resigned as deputy CM. This time Fadnavis could remain in the post of CM for just 80 hours. The events from the morning of 24 November till now, surprised people at every turn.

Fadnavis resigns after 80 hours

On Tuesday, 26 November, the Supreme Court ruled that the Fadnavis government should prove its majority within 24 hours. Time was given till 7 pm on 27 November. This decision was in a way a seal of victory for the coalition. By midday, Ajit Pawar resigned and then at 4 pm Fadnavis also submitted his resignation to the Governor. Fadnavis could remain in the CM post for only 80 hours. During this he held a few meetings and announced a huge relief package for the farmers. While Ajit Pawar could not even sit on the deputy CM’s chair and remained stuck in political confusion.

Anything can happen in politics anytime. Two different ideological parties can also join hands to form a government. There is no permanent friend or foe. This thing has been proved once again. Two friends stood face to face to form a government in Maharashtra and the controversy grew so much that the BJP-Shiv Sena’s 30-year-old friendship was broken.

As the old friends turned their backs on each other, it paved the way for a new chapter in the history of the state’s political alliance. Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress decided to form an alliance for the first time. The path of Shiv Sena and Congress-NCP remained separated from the beginning. While Shiv Sena spoke on Hindutva, NCP preferred secularism like its former party Congress.

But in 2019, we got to see a new twist which nobody had imagined till some time back. In a way, the opposing parties decided to form a government together. This is the first time NCP, Congress has entered into any alliance with Shiv Sena. The Congress-NCP fought the Maharashtra elections together.

Sharad Pawar split from the Congress in 1999 to form the NCP. While Shiv Sena was founded by Bal Thackeray in 1966. But they have never remained been on the same boat. Even when Sharad Pawar was in the Congress and even after the formation of NCP.

The NCP, along with the Congress, ran the government in Maharashtra from 2003 to 2014, while the BJP-Shiv Sena formed the government for the first time in 1995. During this time the Chief Minister was from Shiv Sena. In 2014 also, both had conflict of interested but still managed to formed the government together.

In 2019, the two parties contested together and won a clear majority. The dispute between the two parties about the post of CM increased so much that the Shiv Sena decided to form a government with the Congress-NCP and proved again that there is no permanent enemy in politics.
