Haldwani grapples with water scarcity as water level in Gaula river drops

Due to the scorching heat, the water level of Gaula has dropped to 60 cusecs. Due to this, there is a crisis in drinking water supply as well as irrigation. According to the data received from the Irrigation Department, in the year 2018 the water level of Gaula was 65 cusecs but the current figure is five cusecs less than this.

The water level of Gaula is decreasing every day. Due to this the drinking water crisis is worsening. Every day the Jal Sansthan requires 35 MLD of water to water the city. Apart from this, the department is making arrangements to provide water to the urban areas from 65 tube wells, but due to increasing heat and decreasing ground water level, the discharge of water from the tube wells has reduced, due to which water problem persists in many areas.
