DM Pauri calls for increased public participation for environmental protection

For the successful organization of World Environment Day on June 5, District Magistrate Pauri held a meeting of the concerned officers in the NIC room located in the district office. In the meeting, he gave instructions to organize various programs and activities and emphasized on ensuring wide public participation at the district level. In the meeting, the District Magistrate motivated all the officers and employees to come to the office on foot on June 3 and to use minimum vehicles by forming groups on June 4 for the purpose of preventing air pollution. Also, instructions were given to use minimum electrical appliances in their respective residential premises to celebrate Earth Hour from 6:30 to 7:30 pm every day from June 1 to 5.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the District Magistrate directed to run a plantation campaign in the entire district, conduct special cleaning campaigns on the ravines, tourist and religious places, water sources and river ghats of Srinagar and Yamkeshwar. He directed to run a special cleaning campaign around Dugadda temple including Chinbo, Patna waterfall of Yamkeshwar under Lansdowne. He appreciated the efforts of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Block Development Officer Yamkeshwar in keeping BDO Nainidanda and Neelkanth clean regarding the collection of pine leaves in environmental protection. He laid special emphasis on the selection of such places where the possibility of forest fire is minimum, so that the safety of the plants can be ensured.
Along with this, instructions were also given to keep the data and photographs of plantation safe block-wise. The Assistant Election Officer was directed that along with the plantation program at all the polling booths of the district, the participants should be given information about the importance of both environment and voting by taking a voter awareness oath. The Education Department was instructed to ensure active participation of school students in cleanliness drives and tree plantation programmes.
