Pithoragarh Emerges as Overall Champion in Girls’ Category at Youth Boxing Competition in Haridwar

In the girls’ category of the 2026 Uttarakhand Youth Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship, the team from Pithoragarh emerged as the overall champion. The championship concluded with a grand closing ceremony held on Sunday at the Multipurpose Hall of the Yogasthali Sports Complex. On this occasion, Sports Minister Rekha Arya honored the winning athletes and teams by presenting them with trophies and medals. The Sports Minister stated that Uttarakhand is rapidly emerging as a hub for boxing, and the day is not far when athletes from the state will proudly hoist the national flag at international competitions such as the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. She emphasized that hard work, dedication, and discipline are essential for developing athletic skills. Furthermore, she noted that the government has already implemented a policy to provide “out-of-turn” employment opportunities to athletes who win medals at the national and international levels.
Teams from all 13 districts participated in the championship, with the Pithoragarh team securing the title of overall champion in the girls’ category. In the girls’ division, the team from Pithoragarh district was declared the winner, while the team from the Pithoragarh Sports Hostel finished as the runner-up. In the girls’ 45–48 kg weight category, Jaya from Pithoragarh won the gold medal; Savita won the silver; and Neha and Gunjan secured bronze medals. In the 48–51 kg category, Komal Lohia won gold; Krishna won silver; and Ritu and Vaishnavi won bronze medals. In the 54–57 kg category, Babita from Pithoragarh won the gold medal, while Saloni won the silver, and Anshika and Riya won bronze medals. Additionally, in the 51–54 kg category, Chandni from Pithoragarh took the top spot by winning the gold medal; Kavita won the silver; and Anushka and Alisha won bronze medals.
