Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat passed away after prolonged illness

Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat died on Tuesday night in Uttarakhand. She breathed her last at Max Hospital in Dehradun. Ajay Rana, brother of the MLA and President of Uttarakhand Press Club, has confirmed this. She was 68 years old. Her last rites will be performed at her native place on Wednesday.

MLA Shaila Rani was on ventilator at Max Hospital for two days. She could not recover from the surgery after a spinal fracture. In 2017, during the assembly election campaign, she fell, due to which she suffered internal injuries. She also developed cancer due to the flesh being torn due to the injury. After nearly three years of treatment, she returned home healthy and became active in politics again.

A few months ago, she suffered a spinal fracture due to falling from the stairs of Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath. She was taken to a higher center by her family, where her surgery was done, but it was not successful. She was fighting a battle between life and death for two days.

Such was the political journey

Shailarani started her political journey with Congress and reached the assembly in 2012. During the rebellion in Congress during Harish Rawat’s government, she also joined BJP along with nine senior MLAs of the party.

BJP had given her a ticket from Kedarnath seat in the 2017 assembly elections, but she lost. In 2022, the party made her a candidate again from where she won. Now after her death, this seat has become vacant.
