Kedarnath yatra halted amidst heavy rains in Uttarakhand

Due to continuous rain, the highway leading to Kedarnath Dham has been blocked due to debris and stones between Sonprayag and Gaurikund. The Mandakini river coming from Kedarghati is also in spate. SP Rudraprayag Akshay Prahlad Konde informed that in view of the safety of the general public and devotees, the Kedarnath Dham Yatra has been postponed till further orders. The devotees who have come on the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route have been safely stopped wherever they are. At some places between Gaurikund and Kedarnath, movement has been stopped for the time being due to the possibility of stones falling on the footpath and obstruction of the path.

Kedarnath Yatra temporarily stopped: SP Akshay Prahlad Konde said that the police force is on alert in the entire district including the Kedarnath Dham trekpath. The water level of the Mandakini River and Alaknanda River passing through the district has increased considerably, avoid going to the river bank. According to the weather forecast, a red alert has been issued for the next few hours. The district police appeals to the general public and devotees to avoid unnecessary travel and stay safe wherever they are.

After continuous rain, the Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag is flowing beyond the danger level. All the ghats and roads located on the river bank have been submerged. People living on the river bank have been asked to remain alert.
