Rescue and relief work continue in Kedarnath for third day

Three days after the cloudburst and landslide on the Kedarnath trekking route, three bodies buried in the debris were recovered in Lincholi on Friday. Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar quoted the Rudraprayag district administration as saying that one of the deceased could be identified and the other two have not even been reported missing.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to the District Magistrate (Rudraprayag) and Senior Superintendent of Police (Rudraprayag) virtually from the government residence and held a review meeting of disaster-related relief and rescue operations and gave necessary guidelines.

Rescue started by heli

As soon as the weather opened for heli operation, the rescue of the stranded devotees has been started by airlifting them from Bhimbali. At the same time, about 250 people have been rescued manually from between Sonprayag and Gaurikund.

The body buried under boulders was taken out

Rescue and relief work is going on for the third consecutive day on Saturday. District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that on Friday, the rescue team took out the body buried under big rocks near Tharu Camp. Two mobiles and other material have been recovered from it.

Cloudburst incident on Kedarnath trekking route

After the incident of cloudburst on Kedarnath trek on Wednesday night, more than one and a half hundred complaints have been registered in the police control room so far, whose relatives are not able to contact them. The relatives have lodged their complaint to the control room and said that since Wednesday evening they have not been able to talk to their relatives, they had gone on a pilgrimage to Kedarnath. Officials said that the rescue of all is expected to be completed by Saturday. There is no mobile service in Kedarnath Dham, which could be the main reason for the stranded pilgrims not being able to contact them.
