The Indian contingent put up a stellar performance on Saturday, the 10th day of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, winning eight gold medals on August 1. Seven of these came in boxing and one in para-shot put. This is the first time India has won seven gold medals in boxing in a single edition of the Commonwealth Games.
In women’s boxing, Preeti Pawar, Jasmine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, and Arundhati Chaudhary won gold medals by winning their respective finals. Among men, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won gold medals. In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani, and Narendra Berwal settled for silver medals.
Soman Rana won gold in para-athletics. Gulvir Singh won bronze in the men’s 5000 meters, becoming the first Indian athlete to win medals in both the 5000 and 10000 meter events at the Commonwealth Games. India also won two more medals in the triple jump.
- Panghal defeated English boxer 4-1
Ankush Panghal defeated English boxer Dimezi Shittu 4-1 in the final of the men’s 80 kg weight category. Ankush dominated the final from the start and ultimately won.
- Sachin Siwach’s final punch brought gold
Sachin Siwach defeated Namibian boxer Trygen Morning Ndavelo 3-2 in the men’s 60 kg weight category final.
The referee penalized Sachin one point in the second round, making it necessary for him to win 4-1 in the final round. The final round was also tied, but Sachin landed a powerful punch in the final moments, causing Ndavelo to stumble. This punch sealed Sachin’s victory.
- Arundhati Chaudhary also wins gold
Arundhati Chaudhary defeated England’s Kenthley Reid 5-0 in the 70kg category. In the first 30 seconds of the final round, the referee asked both boxers to speed things up.
Arundhati’s opponent, Reid, was aggressive to make a comeback, but the Indian boxer didn’t give her any chance.
- Priya Ghanghas’s Hard-fought Victory
India’s Priya Ghanghas delivered a brilliant performance in the women’s 60kg final, winning the gold medal. In a closely contested match, she won 4-1 by a split decision.
Priya started the match strongly, but her opponent, Al-Ahmadiyeh, also responded with some accurate punches. The final round saw a close contest between the two boxers. Priya appeared tired, but she maintained an aggressive stance and continued to land powerful punches.
- Sakshi won 5-0
India’s Sakshi Chaudhary won the gold medal in the women’s 51 kg category final. She dominated the entire bout and won by unanimous decision 5-0.
Sakshi employed excellent strategy throughout the bout. She blocked her opponent’s punches with her left hand and delivered accurate counterattacks with her right. Many of her punches landed directly on her opponent’s face, strengthening her grip on the bout.
- Preeti defeated Canadian boxer
Haryana boxer Preeti Pawar defeated Canada’s Scarlett Delgado 5-0 in the women’s 54 kg category. She dominated all three rounds and won the gold.
Preeti won bronze at the 2023 Asian Games. Preeti has represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Championships and also won the gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Final. Preeti trains at NS NIS Patiala.
- Jasmine defeated Michaela Walsh 5-0
Haryana boxer Jasmine Lamboria defeated Michaela Walsh 5-0 in the 57 kg category final. She was declared the winner by unanimous decision by all judges.
Jasmine is the world’s No. 1 boxer in this category. She won gold at the 2025 World Boxing Championships and the World Boxing Cup Final. Jasmine represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Para shot putter Soman wins gold, Shubham wins silver
India’s Soman Rana won the gold medal in the F-57 category of the para shot put event with a season-best throw. Another Indian, Shubham Juyal, took silver.
Soman Rana threw the shot put 13.40 meters. Shubham Juyal threw 13.28 meters. The F-57 category includes athletes with lower body (leg) weakness but normal upper body (torso and arm) strength.
Gulveer wins bronze in the 5000 meters
Gulveer Singh became the first Indian to win medals in two track events at the same edition of the Commonwealth Games. Gulveer also won bronze in the 10000 meters.
Gulveer won bronze in the men’s 5000 meters. Gulveer clocked 13 minutes 24.95 seconds. He edged out Cornelius Kemboi of Kenya by just 0.04 seconds.
Gold in this event was won by Matthew Kipsang of Uganda (13:23.61), while Kai Robinson of Australia (13:24.70) took silver.
