Hockey India announces retirement of Jersey number 16
Indian hockey team’s great goalkeeper PR Sreejesh had announced his retirement before the Paris Olympics. This player, who came with the dream of a gold medal, did not get his wish fulfilled but he did not return from the Paris Olympics empty-handed. The Indian team won the bronze medal and gave a memorable farewell to its star goalkeeper. Hockey India has taken a big decision regarding PR Sreejesh. His jersey number 16 has also been retired along with this legend.
Hockey India on Wednesday decided to retire jersey number 16 of legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. Sreejesh said goodbye to the game after playing an important role in getting the country its second consecutive Olympic bronze medal in the recently concluded Paris Games. Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also announced that 36-year-old Sreejesh, who wore jersey number 16 for almost two decades, will play the role of junior national coach.

Bhola Nath said in a ceremony organized in honor of Sreejesh, “Sreejesh is now going to become the coach of the junior team. We are retiring jersey number 16 for the senior team. We are not retiring jersey number 16 for the junior team. Sreejesh will prepare another Sreejesh in the junior team.
