IPL 2025 season suspended for a week

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision on Friday amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. In view of the tension, the BCCI has suspended the IPL 2025 season for a week midway through the tournament. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that ‘at present the league has been postponed for a week. After this we will take stock of the situation and decide.’ For this the board will release a separate schedule. In response to a question about the window for the league, he said that ‘all the boards support us. In such a situation, the window is not a matter of concern.’ Regarding the availability of foreign players, he said that ‘it will be their personal decision, they will decide on it themselves.’ Earlier, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal had told on Thursday night that the 18th season of IPL will continue in the current situation, but now the board has decided to postpone it.

Earlier, the match played between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Dharamsala was canceled. The match was stopped due to a fault in the floodlights and the spectators and players were taken out of the field. The BCCI had said that the match was canceled due to technical fault in Dharamsala. However, there was doubt about IPL 2025 since Thursday.

16 matches were remaining

A BCCI official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, ‘It does not look good that cricket is going on when the country is at war.’ The IPL 2025 season was in its final stages and a total of 16 matches including the final were left to be played. The final match of the IPL 2025 season was to be played in Kolkata on May 25, but in view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, it has been postponed for a week.
