Paris Olympics 2024: India-Argentina match ends in draw

The Indian men’s hockey team played its second group stage match of the Paris Olympics 2024. The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team played a 1-1 draw with Argentina in a tough match on Monday. Lucas Martinez (22nd minute) scored the only goal for Argentina. At the same time, just 1 minute before the end of the match, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner into a goal and leveled the score at 1-1.

India was heading towards defeat in the match against Argentina. Argentina had a 1-0 lead towards the end of the fourth quarter. But, the penalty corner India got in the 59th minute brought a ray of hope for it. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh did not make any mistake here and put the ball in the goal post to level the score at 1-1. With this draw, India remains at number three in Pool-B.

Argentina scored a goal in the second quarter

India started the match with an attack. In the first quarter, both teams got many chances to score goals. But, both teams failed to score goals. As a result, the first quarter remained goalless. In the second quarter, Indian players created many great opportunities but could not score goals. Then in the 22nd minute, thanks to Lucas Martinez’s brilliant goal, Argentina took a 1-0 lead over India by half time.

In the third quarter of the match, India started attacking. In the 33rd minute, India’s Sukhjeet took a brilliant shot. But Argentina’s goalkeeper made a brilliant save. Indian players counter-attacked several times in the third quarter but failed to penetrate Argentina’s defense. Argentina again got a penalty stroke in the 38th minute, which they failed to convert into a goal.

India will take on Ireland in their next match on 30 July.
