Roger Federer wins 10th Halle title; defeats Goffin in straight sets

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer defeated Belgian David Goffin in straight sets to notch up his record 10th title in the Halle ATP tournament. This win would give Federer a great boost before Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old Federer defeated Goffin 7-6, 6-1 to win his career 102nd career singles title. In his first grass court title of the season Federer overcome some jittery opening round matches before the finals. Federer said, “It’s incredible. When I played here for the first time, I had never thought that I would win ten titles here.”

Federer would like to increase his record 20 career Grand Slam title with a Ninth Wimbledon title next month. Federer defeated Pierre Hughes Herbert 6-3 6-3 in the semifinals on Saturday and entered the final of the Halle ATP 500 Tournament for the 13th time.

At the same time, David Goffin defeated Italy’s Matio Berratini 7-6, 6-3, and made it to the first ATP Tour final after 2017. With this win Federer also became the first player to win 3 titles on tour this year. Although 37, Federer would still be among the top favorites to win the coveted Grass court tournament.
