Sabalenka wins second consecutive US Open title

World number one and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka has won her second consecutive US Open title. She defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) in the womens singles final played at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday night. This is her fourth Grand Slam. This was the third Grand Slam final of the year for 27-year-old Sabalenka of Belarus.
Earlier, she had lost to American players on two occasions. She lost to Madison Keys at the Australian Open in January and to Coco Gauff at the French Open in June. This time too, she was up against American player Amanda Anisimova in the final.
Last year, she won her first title at the US Open by defeating American player Jessica Pegula. Not only this, she also became the first woman to win consecutive trophies at the US Open after Serena Williams in 2012-14. Sabalenka lost to Anisimova in the semi-finals of Wimbledon in July. Before the final, nine matches were played between these two players. Anisimova had won six of them.
Anisimova also lost in the Wimbledon final
After defeating Sabalenka at the All England Club less than two months ago, Anisimova lost her first Grand Slam final to Iga Swiatek 6-0, 6-0.
