Team India announced for the series against West Indies

The Indian team has been announced for the two-match Test series against the West Indies. The team, captained by Shubman Gill, comprises 15 members. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named vice-captain. Regular vice-captain Rishabh Pant was injured during the England tour and is not yet fully fit. The BCCI announced the team at a press conference in Dubai on Thursday.
The first match of the series will be played in Ahmedabad from October 2. The second Test will be held in Delhi from October 10.
Indian team: Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Nitish Reddy, and N Jagadeesan.
India Ranks Third in the World Test Championship
This two-match series between India and the West Indies is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. India currently sits third in the points table. India recently drew the five-match Test series against England 2-2. Meanwhile, the West Indies are in sixth place, having lost all three matches played so far.
This is India’s first home series in this WTC cycle, while it is West Indies’ first away series
Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur, who were part of the team for the England tour, have been dropped from the team. Abhimanyu Easwaran was also not included in the squad.
Nitish Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal have been included in the squad for this series. Padikkal recently came into the limelight after his 150-run innings against Australia A. He batted at number 3 in the Perth Test against Australia last year, scoring 0 and 25. Nitish has played seven Tests and can play a key role as an all-rounder.
West Indies to play a Test series in India after seven years
The West Indies team is coming to India to play a Test series after seven years. The Windies lost the previous series 2-0 in 2018.
