Vehicle falls into the river near Devprayag, five dead
Five people died on the spot when a car fell into the Alaknanda river in near Devprayag on the Rishikesh Badrinath Highway. A woman seriously injured in the accident has been admitted to Base Hospital Srikot. It is being told that four members of the family travelling in the car were going to Gauchar from Faridabad and two people from Roorkee to attend a wedding ceremony.
Around 7 am on Saturday, a car lost control near Bhalle village on the national highway and fell into the Alaknanda river about 300 meters below. On receiving the information, Tehsildar Surajpal Singh Rawat, police station in-charge Mahipal Singh Rawat, police and SDRF team immediately reached the spot with equipment.
As soon as the information of the accident was received, Devprayag police station in-charge Mahipal Rawat reached the spot with his team. Rescue work was started on a war footing along with SDRF personnel. In the initial rescue operation, a woman was taken out of the gorge. She was sent to the nearest hospital for treatment.
