Jasprit Bumrah named ICC cricketer of the year 2024

The year 2024 was memorable for Team India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. This year, he not only made an invaluable contribution to Team India but also made many records. Recently, Bumrah has been awarded the ICC’s ‘Test Cricketer of the Year’ award. Now Bumrah will also be awarded the Sir ‘Garfield Sobers Trophy’, which is an honor given by the ICC to the best cricketer of the year. He will be the 5th Indian player to win this title.
Entry in ICC’s best team too
The ICC recently selected the best Test team of the year. Bumrah’s name was in the playing-XI. The ICC said about Bumrah in its release, ‘Jasprit Bumrah has been selected for the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for the best male cricketer of the year at the ICC Awards. In the year 2024, he kept the pressure on the opposing teams in the Test and limited overs formats.’
Indian player won after 7 years
The name of an Indian has come after 7 years for this ICC award. The last time Virat Kohli was awarded this award. Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016) and Virat Kohli (2017 and 2018) have won this award representing India.
Bumrah created history in the rankings
The ICC praised Bumrah and said, ‘Bumrah’s skill is reflected in the ICC Test bowlers rankings in which he crossed the 900-point mark. At the end of the year, he had 907 points, which is the highest for any Indian bowler in the history of the rankings.
