Uttarakhand weather update: Rain forecast for August 5

The Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has issued a weather forecast valid until August 10. According to the forecast, rain is likely in most parts of the state throughout this period. The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for very heavy rainfall in several districts for Wednesday, August 5, while a ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rainfall is in effect for the remaining districts.

Alert for Very Heavy Rain on Wednesday

The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, August 5. Dehradun and Bageshwar are among the districts under this alert; these areas are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places, accompanied by spells of intense to very intense rain.

Yellow Alert for These Districts

The Meteorological Department has forecast spells of heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, in other districts. There is a likelihood of heavy rainfall in parts of Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for these districts.

Heavy Rain Expected in These Districts on Thursday

On Thursday, August 6, heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar, and Pauri Garhwal districts. Other mountainous districts may experience spells of heavy to very heavy rain. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most areas of the state’s two plain districts—Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. A ‘Yellow Alert’ is in place for all districts.

Meteorological Department Warns of Potential Disasters

The Meteorological Department has warned the public that light to moderate landslides could occur in vulnerable areas. There is also a risk of rockfalls, which could lead to road disruptions. Essential services such as electricity and water supply may also be affected in some locations. People have been advised to exercise particular caution regarding lightning strikes.
