Char Dham Yatra temporarily suspended for two days; landslides reported at several locations; weather alert issued
The Char Dham Yatra 2026 has been temporarily suspended for two days. The Commissioner of the Garhwal Division stated that the pilgrimage has been halted for today (July 28) and tomorrow (July 29) in the interest of pilgrim safety, due to landslides blocking the route at several locations and a forecast of heavy rainfall. The Yatra will resume once weather conditions improve.
The monsoon has become active again in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and showers across most districts of the state. Additionally, an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for specific districts, and the administration has been instructed to remain vigilant.

Appeal to Avoid Unnecessary Travel
According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, an ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for parts of Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital districts. Thunderstorms and lightning strikes are likely in these areas. Furthermore, spells of intense rain are expected in isolated locations across other districts of the state.
Meteorologists have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from riverbanks and streams during inclement weather. Residents of hilly areas, in particular, are urged to remain alert and keep track of weather updates. The weather across the state is expected to remain similar until August 2.
