CM Dhami declares state holiday on Igas

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a state holiday in connection with the popular festival of Uttarakhand, Igas-Bagwal.

This will be the second time that a holiday has been declared in Uttarakhand for the festival of Igas. Earlier last year also a state holiday was announced on Igas Bagwal by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Chief Minister said that Igas holds a special place for the people of Uttarakhand. It is a symbol of our folk culture. We all should try to keep our cultural heritage and tradition alive. Our aim is to keep the new generation connected with our folk culture and traditional festivals.

When is Igas-Bagwal celebrated?

Giving this information through a tweet, the Chief Minister said on that day there would be a state wide holiday. Igas Bagwal festival is celebrated 11 days after Diwali. In fact, there is a tradition of celebrating Igas festival or Budhi Diwali 11 days after Diwali i.e. Bagwal festival in the mountain as news of Lord Ram returning to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan was received 11 days late in the hills.
