Debris blocks Yamuna flow, Syanachatti evacuated as water level rises

The water level of the temporary lake formed in the Yamuna river rose again on Thursday morning due to debris and large stones falling in the Kupda Khadd near Syanachatti on the Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi. Water entered the houses and hotels in Syanachatti, causing panic. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the administration and police evacuated all the buildings and hotels of Syanachatti, Kuthnaur and Kharadi. About 300 people have been sent to safer places.
Sensing the danger, the people of Kuthnaur and Kharadi have shifted to their native villages Syalna, Pujargaon, Pali and Bhansari. The water level decreased after the weather cleared in the afternoon, but it increased again due to debris coming again in the late evening. Debris and stones are continuously flowing in the Kupda Khadd flowing on the right side of Syanachatti even in the scorching sun. Due to this, the flow of the lake formed in late June has stopped again. Three Pokland machines of the irrigation department have been working to correct the flow of the Yamuna river for a long time, but the work is being hindered due to repeated debris.
