Dates announced for closure of Gangotri-Yamunotri temples for winter season 2025

The Chardham Yatra 2025 is now in its final phase. The doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed for the winter season on October 22nd, during the Annakut festival, at 11:36 am in the Abhijit Muhurta. After this, the darshan of Mother Ganga will be performed at her winter residence in Mukhba village. The doors of Yamunotri Dham will be closed on Bhai Dooj on October 23rd, 2025. The auspicious time for closing the doors will be determined on Vijayadashami on October 2nd.
Suresh Semwal, Secretary of the Gangotri Dham Temple Committee, stated that the date and time for closing the doors of Gangotri Dham were determined according to the calendar on the auspicious occasion of Navratri. He added that after the closure of the doors of Gangotri Dham, the idol of Mother Ganga will be taken to her winter residence in Mukhba village in a palanquin accompanied by an army band and local musical instruments.
On the night of October 22nd, the Ganga Doli will rest for the night at the Markandeya Temple, located about two kilometers from Mukhba village. The next day, on October 23rd, the idol will reach Mukhba village in the afternoon.
On the other hand, Purushottam Uniyal, spokesperson of the Yamunotri Dham Temple Committee, said that the doors of the Yamunotri Dham will be closed for the winter season on October 23rd, on Bhai Dooj. The auspicious time for this will be determined according to the calendar on the occasion of Vijayadashami on October 2nd.
