Climbers evacuated safely from Chaukhamba trek

Two female trekkers from America and Britain who had set out to climb Chaukhamba peak III have been rescued after 72 hours. Disaster Management Department Chamoli, Indian Air Force and SDRF rescued both the trekkers safely by helicopter. Both the foreign trekkers have been brought to Joshimath Army Cantt.

On the evening of October 3, Disaster Management Department Chamoli received information through Indian Mountaineering Foundation that 2 climbers (01 from USA, 01 from UK) are stuck at an altitude of 6015 meters in Chaukhamba mountain. Rescue is to be done by helicopter on the information.

After receiving information from IMF, the concerned were alerted and the Indian Air Force was requested to safely evacuate the citizens stranded on the Chaukhamba mountain trek. Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, Disaster Management Department Chamoli, Indian Air Force and SDRF and other departments together conducted the rescue operation.

Immediate rescue operation was started by the team from October 4. On Sunday, the third day of the rescue operation, both the climbers were rescued safely.
