Cambodia declares ceasefire with Thailand

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has declared a ceasefire in the ongoing border dispute with Thailand. He said that immediate fighting is expected to reduce tensions between the two countries.
China and the US have mediated in this ceasefire. Peace talks were held between the two countries today in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai from Thailand and Prime Minister Hun Manet from Cambodia took part in this meeting. The meeting was chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Heavy firing took place in the past few days due to the border dispute between the two countries. 33 people have died in this. Most of the dead are civilians.
Malaysia is currently chairing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN. It has called both countries to the negotiating table.
US President Donald Trump had said on Sunday that resolving the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is an easy task for him, because he has also resolved the dispute between India and Pakistan earlier.
During a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump had said that he has warned the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia that if the war does not stop, America will not sign a trade agreement.
Earlier on Saturday, Trump had also claimed that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to immediate ceasefire talks. Trump said that ‘this war reminds me of the Indo-Pak conflict, which we successfully stopped.’
