F-16 fighter jet crashes in France

The Belgian Air Force reported that one of their F-16 fighter jets crashed on Thursday near the city of Lorient in northwest France. Two pilots were present in it, who managed to get themselves out of the aircraft in time. However, one of the pilots got stuck on the high-voltage power line for two hours.

Officials said the fighter jet flew from Belgium to France’s naval airport. A spokesman for the regional authorities said that emergency staff rescued the trapped airmen on the high-voltage power line after shutting down the power in the area. He was later sent to the hospital.

A statement said that the area around the crash site had been evacuated and that the jet was not carrying any weapons of any kind. The Belgian Air Force also confirmed that one of its F-16s crashed. It also said that both pilots managed to eject and at the same time one of them landed safely.

According to French media reports, fire personnel were called to the accident site at 10.38am local time. Pictures from the scene show that the jet has damaged at least one house.
