Social media platform X closes operations in Brazil over ‘censorship demands’

Social media platform X has shut down its office in Brazil. The company’s CEO Elon Musk gave this information on Saturday (August 17). He blamed the Supreme Court’s censorship order behind the decision. However, X’s services for the people of Brazil will continue as before.

Musk wrote on X – ‘Due to the (illegal) secret censorship and demands to hand over private information by Supreme Court Judge, we have decided to close the X office in Brazil. This decision was difficult, but we had no way to explain our actions without being ashamed.’

According to media reports, the company’s decision comes after a legal battle over the platform’s rights and responsibilities to prevent misinformation.
