Vince Zampella, co-creator of Call of Duty, dies in an accident

A very sad news has emerged today for the video game industry. Vince Zampella, one of the creators of Call of Duty, one of the world’s most popular battle royale games, and the founder of Respawn Entertainment, died in a car accident. He was 55 years old. According to broadcaster NBC4, the accident occurred on Sunday on a scenic road north of Los Angeles. Vince Zampella was driving his Ferrari when it collided with another vehicle. Another person was also reported dead in the accident.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) told AFP that for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road, struck a concrete barrier, and then burst into flames. The CHP also confirmed that the driver and a passenger, who was ejected from the car after the collision, both died at the scene. However, authorities have not publicly identified the deceased.

Electronic Arts expresses condolences

Video game company Electronic Arts posted on X (formerly Twitter) expressing their sorrow over Vince Zampella’s death, calling it an unimaginable loss for the industry. According to EA, Vince’s passing is a profound and deeply felt loss for the video game industry that will be felt for a long time.

The Call of Duty franchise launched in 2003 with a World War II theme and has since sold more than 500 million copies worldwide.
